La Copa EFL 2016-17 fue la 57ª temporada de la Copa EFL , anteriormente conocida como Copa de la Liga de Fútbol, con los 92 clubes de la Premier League y la Liga de fútbol inglesa (EFL). Formato
La Copa de la Liga está abierta a los 92 miembros de la Premier League y la Liga de Fútbol Inglesa y se divide en siete rondas, organizadas de manera que queden 32 clubes en la tercera ronda. [7] Los clubes que participan en la competición europea durante la temporada reciben un pase a la tercera ronda, los clubes restantes de la Premier League ingresan en la segunda ronda y los clubes restantes de la Football League ingresan en la primera ronda. [7]
La Copa de la Liga se juega como una competición de copa eliminatoria y cada empate, excepto las semifinales, se juega como un partido único y el ganador avanza a la siguiente ronda. Las semifinales se juegan en dos partidos , cada club juega un partido en casa, y el club que marca más goles en total en los dos partidos avanza a la final. Si el puntaje está nivelado después de 90 minutos, o si el puntaje total está nivelado para semifinales, entonces se juegan treinta minutos de tiempo extra , divididos en dos mitades de quince minutos. Si los resultados totales en semifinales siguen empatados al final de la prórroga, el empate se decidirá mediante los goles marcados fuera de casa contando dos veces, de acuerdo con la regla de goles fuera de casa . Si el empate no se decide durante la prórroga, se decidirá en la tanda de penaltis .
En las cinco primeras rondas, el club sorteado jugó por primera vez en su casa, y en las semifinales el club sorteado jugó por primera vez el partido de ida en casa. La final se jugó en el estadio de Wembley , un campo neutral.
Asignación del club
Un total de 92 clubes de los cuatro principales niveles ingleses ( Premier League , EFL Championship , EFL League One y EFL League Two ) participaron en la Copa EFL 2016-17.
Distribución
El torneo se organizó de modo que quedaran 32 clubes en la tercera ronda. [7] Setenta de los setenta y dos clubes de la Liga de fútbol inglesa (niveles 2-4) entraron en la primera ronda. En la segunda ronda, los trece clubes de la Premier League que no participaron en la competencia europea, así como los dos clubes de campeonato mejor clasificados relegados de la Premier League 2015-16 ( Newcastle United y Norwich City ) ingresaron a la copa, [7] con Arsenal , Leicester City , Manchester City , Manchester United , Southampton , Tottenham Hotspur y West Ham United reciben un pase a la tercera ronda. Un total de 70 clubes jugaron en la primera ronda: 24 de la Liga Dos (nivel 4), 24 de la Liga Uno (nivel 3) y 22 del Campeonato (nivel 2). El sorteo de esta ronda se dividió geográficamente en secciones "norte" y "sur". Los equipos se sortearon contra un equipo de la misma sección.
