La Football Association Youth Challenge Cup es una competición de fútbol inglesa organizada por la Football Association para equipos menores de 18 años. Solo los jugadores que tengan entre 15 y 18 años el 31 de agosto de la temporada actual son elegibles para participar. Está dominado por los equipos juveniles de los equipos profesionales, en su mayoría de la Premier League , pero atrae a más de 400 participantes de todo el país.
Al final de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, la FA organizó un Campeonato Juvenil para Asociaciones del Condado considerándolo la mejor manera de estimular el juego entre aquellos jóvenes que aún no tienen la edad suficiente para jugar fútbol senior. Los partidos no atrajeron grandes multitudes, pero se seleccionaron jugadores destacados para los Internacionales Juveniles y miles tuvieron la oportunidad de jugar en un concurso nacional por primera vez. En 1951 se comprendió que una competición de clubes probablemente tendría un atractivo más amplio. La Copa Desafío Juvenil de la FA (temporada 1952–53) se limitó a los equipos juveniles de clubes, tanto profesionales como amateurs, que eran miembros de la FA. [1]
Sir Joe Richards, el difunto presidente de la Football League, pensó en la idea de una copa juvenil. Inicialmente propuso la idea a los clubes de la liga, pero no se mostraron entusiasmados; Richards luego llevó la idea a la Asociación de Fútbol, a quien le gustó la idea y creó la competencia en el mismo año. [2] El trofeo de la Copa Juvenil fue comprado por la Liga de Fútbol durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial . Sin embargo, nunca le encontraron un uso. The highest attendance at an FA Youth Cup match was 38,187 for the first leg of the Arsenal against Manchester United semi-final at the Emirates Stadium on 14 March 2007, which Arsenal won 1–0.[3]
