The charts below show the way in which the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) represents Hungarian language pronunciations in Wikipedia articles. For a guide to adding IPA characters to Wikipedia articles, see {{IPA-hu}}, {{IPAc-hu}} and Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Pronunciation § Entering IPA characters.

See Hungarian phonology for a more thorough look at the sounds of Hungarian.

Sound changes[edit]

Degemination[edit]

  • Long consonants become short when preceded or followed by another consonant: folttal [foltɒl].

Intercluster elision[edit]

  • /d/ and /t/ in the middle of clusters of three or more consonants may be omitted, depending on speed and articulation of speech.
