Historia [ editar ]
La circunscripción se creó en 1918 cuando la circunscripción de dos escaños de Portsmouth se dividió en tres divisiones: Central , Norte y Sur .
Fue abolido para las elecciones generales de 1950 y reemplazado en gran parte por un nuevo distrito electoral de Portsmouth West cuando el eje de división cambió, pero se restableció para las elecciones generales de febrero de 1974 .

Este asiento urbano es de afluencia [2] e ingresos promedio , con un desempleo relativamente bajo en comparación con el promedio nacional medido a fines de 2012 en 3.8% (recuento de solicitantes) en comparación con el promedio de 2.3% en toda la región. [3]
Tomado junto con Portsmouth West, ha sido uno de los referentes más antiguos (del ganador de las elecciones nacionales), teniendo ese estatus desde 1966.
