La elección del Ayuntamiento de Birmingham de 2018 es una de las muchas elecciones locales que tuvieron lugar en Inglaterra el 3 de mayo de 2018. Esta fue la primera elección 'total' para el Ayuntamiento de Birmingham después de una revisión de límites, que redujo el número de concejales de 120 a 101, sirviendo a 69 barrios (anteriormente 40 barrios). [1] [2] Desde la elección, el consejo de la ciudad se ha compuesto de 37 distritos de un solo miembro y 32 distritos de dos miembros. [3]
Todos los electores registrados ( ciudadanos británicos , irlandeses , de la Commonwealth y de la Unión Europea ) que tengan 18 años o más el día de las elecciones tendrán derecho a votar en las elecciones locales. [4] Una persona que tiene dos hogares (como un estudiante universitario que tiene una dirección de tiempo de curso y que vive en su casa durante las vacaciones) puede registrarse para votar en ambas direcciones siempre que no se encuentren en la misma área electoral y pueda votar en las elecciones locales de los dos ayuntamientos diferentes. [5]

Resultados de las elecciones locales de 2016 en Birmingham
Antes de las elecciones de 2018, el Ayuntamiento de Birmingham estaba compuesto por 120 concejales en 40 distritos. El consejo ha sido controlado por el Partido Laborista desde 2012 , que tenía dos tercios (80) de los escaños. El Partido Conservador tuvo el control exclusivo del consejo por última vez en 1984 . No estuvo bajo ningún control general desde 2003 hasta 2012, dirigido por una coalición laborista- demócrata liberal de 2003 a 2004 y por una coalición conservadora-liberal demócrata de 2004 a 2012.
