Ha habido varios cambios menores en el nombre del premio:
- De 1965 a 1968, fue conocida como "Mejor canción country y occidental".
- De 1969 a 1983, fue premiada como "Mejor Canción Country".
- En 1984, fue galardonado como "Mejor canción country nueva".
- Desde 1985 hasta la actualidad, ha vuelto a ser premiada como "Mejor Canción Country".
