Fue corresponsal político de The Guardian entre 1979 y 1986, luego ocupó el mismo cargo en The Independent de 1986 a 2000. Luego asumió el papel de editor político en The Independent on Sunday de 2002 a 2004 antes de ser nombrado editor político en The Sunday Telegraph , [1] y luego editor político adjunto de The Independent entre 2004 y 2008.
