Cumberland es una antigua circunscripción parlamentaria del Reino Unido . Fue una circunscripción de la Cámara de los Comunes del Parlamento de Inglaterra, luego del Parlamento de Gran Bretaña de 1707 a 1800 y del Parlamento del Reino Unido de 1801 a 1832. Elecciones
La franquicia del condado, desde 1430, estaba en manos de los hombres adultos propietarios de tierras de propiedad absoluta valoradas en 40 chelines o más. Cada elector tenía tantos votos como escaños por cubrir. Los votos debían emitirse mediante una declaración oral, en público, en las audiencias , que tuvieron lugar en la ciudad de Cockermouth . El costo y la dificultad de votar en un solo lugar del condado, junto con la falta de un voto secreto, contribuyeron a la corrupción y la intimidación de los electores, que estaba muy extendida en el sistema político británico no reformado.
