Mark Stein (nacido en 1951) es un escritor estadounidense. Criado en Silver Spring, Maryland , se graduó de la Universidad de Wisconsin-Madison en 1973.

Stein escribió el guión de la película Housesitter de Goldie Hawn y Steve Martin . Sus obras de teatro se produjeron por primera vez en el New Playwrights Theatre de Washington, DC De allí pasó a las producciones en el Actors Theatre de Louisville, Manhattan Theatre Club , South Coast Repertory, el Oregon Shakespeare Festival , el Fountain Theatre de Los Ángeles , el Royal Manitoba Theatre Center y otros lugares.

Su libro de no ficción, How the States Got Their Shapes , se convirtió en la base de una serie de History Channel con el mismo nombre .
