Las elecciones al Consejo del Condado de West Sussex de 2013 se llevaron a cabo el 2 de mayo de 2013, como parte de las elecciones locales del Reino Unido de 2013 . Las 71 divisiones electorales estaban en proceso de elección, que devolvieron a un concejal de condado cada una mediante votación de primer puesto para un mandato de cuatro años. [1] En esta elección, el Partido Conservador buscaba retener el control general del consejo y los Demócratas Liberales mantener su posición como principal partido de oposición.
Todos los electores registrados localmente ( ciudadanos británicos , irlandeses , de la Commonwealth y de la Unión Europea ) que tenían 18 años o más el jueves 2 de mayo de 2013 tenían derecho a votar en las elecciones locales. Quienes se encontraban temporalmente fuera de su dirección habitual (por ejemplo, trabajando, de vacaciones, en un alojamiento para estudiantes o en un hospital) también tenían derecho a votar en las elecciones locales [2], aunque los que se habían trasladado al extranjero y se habían inscrito como electores en el extranjero no puede votar en las elecciones locales. Es posible registrarse para votar en más de una dirección (como un estudiante universitario que tenía una dirección de tiempo de curso y vive en casa durante las vacaciones) a discreción de la Oficina del Registro Electoral local, pero sigue siendo un delito votar más de una vez en la misma elección de gobierno local. El Partido Conservador , que ha controlado el control del Consejo desde 1997, retuvo el control con una mayoría de 10 escaños, una pérdida de tres escaños en comparación con el resultado de 2009. [4] El Partido Conservador también retuvo Imberdown que se había ganado debido a una deserción de los Demócratas Liberales. [5]
El Partido de la Independencia del Reino Unido (UKIP) ganó 10 escaños para convertirse en la oposición oficial en el consejo, una ganancia neta de 8 escaños. En el período transcurrido desde la última elección, UKIP ganó dos escaños por deserción de los conservadores, Kingston Buci y Worthing West , UKIP no pudo retener ninguno de los escaños. [6] [7] Los Demócratas Liberales perdieron 11 escaños y ganaron 1 escaño, dejándolos con un total de 8 escaños. Los laboristas ganaron 4 escaños de los conservadores, pero perdieron Haywards Heath Town ante los conservadores, que los laboristas habían ganado por la deserción de los liberales demócratas. [5] [8] Labor ganó un total de 6 escaños, todos en el distrito de Crawley .
De los partidos que no obtuvieron representación en el Consejo. sólo el Partido Verde se opuso a más de una división electoral. El Partido Verde perdió a su único concejal de condado, que había desertado de los Demócratas Liberales. [5] [9]
Un independiente ganó la división de Midhurst de los conservadores. [10] El candidato conservador para la División de Midhurst se vio obligado a dimitir del Partido Conservador, pero lo hizo después del cierre de la nominación y la fecha para retirar las nominaciones, lo que significa que su nombre permaneció en la papeleta de votación . Esto se debió a los comentarios hechos con respecto a la posible política de admisiones de un nuevo internado propuesto en West Sussex. [11]
