El Segundo Parlamento de Ontario estuvo en sesión desde el 21 de marzo de 1871 hasta el 23 de diciembre de 1874, justo antes de las elecciones generales de 1875 . El partido mayoritario fue el Partido Liberal de Ontario dirigido por Edward Blake ; Oliver Mowat reemplazó a Blake como primer ministro en octubre de 1872. En 1872 se aprobó una ley que prohibía a un miembro ocupar un escaño en la Asamblea Legislativa mientras ocupaba un escaño en el Parlamento del Dominio , un llamado " mandato dual ". Había 88 miembros en la segunda legislatura.
Richard William Scott sirvió como presidente de la asamblea hasta que fue nombrado para el gabinete el 21 de diciembre de 1871. James George Currie sucedió a Scott como presidente, sirviendo hasta su renuncia el 29 de marzo de 1873. Rupert Mearse Wells sucedió a Currie como presidente. [1]
