Este escaño fue creado por la Ley de Redistribución de Asientos de 1885 , desde la cual ha sido ganado en las elecciones por candidatos de solo dos partidos. Durante diecinueve de los años entre 1885 y 1950, North Dorset estuvo representada por liberales , y en todas las demás ocasiones desde 1885 ha estado representada por conservadores .
