Historia y desarrollo futuro
El primer rascacielos propuesto en el centro de Manchester fue el Quay Street Tower de 110 metros (361 pies) . Concebida para completarse en 1948, habría sido la torre más alta de Europa. [1] La propuesta fue rechazada y se dijo que era desconsiderada, ya que gran parte de la ciudad aún se estaba reconstruyendo después del bombardeo de Manchester de la Segunda Guerra Mundial .
El primer auge de los edificios altos en el Gran Manchester se produjo en las décadas de 1960 y 1970 con edificios notables como la City Tower de 123 metros (404 pies) que se convirtió en el edificio más alto del Reino Unido cuando se construyó y la Torre CIS de 118 metros (387 pies) .
A lo largo de los años ochenta y noventa, pocas propuestas importantes se materializaron. Sin embargo, ha habido un renovado interés en los rascacielos en Manchester en el siglo XXI con una serie de propuestas que se están presentando. En 2006, la Beetham Tower se convirtió en el edificio más alto del Reino Unido fuera de Londres y el primero en alcanzar una altura de más de 150 metros, lo que lo convierte también en el primer rascacielos oficial fuera de Londres. After a period after the 1960s building boom where few new significant buildings were built in Greater Manchester, the early 21st century has seen a long list of proposals meaning the skyline has been transformed in recent decades. The first towers over 100 metres were the CIS Tower and the City Tower, the latter of which kept the title of tallest building in Greater Manchester for 41 years until the Beetham Tower was completed in 2006. In 2018 Deansgate Square South Tower became the tallest building in Greater Manchester and the tallest in the United Kingdom outside London.
