Cada año, el Concurso de poetas más jóvenes acepta presentaciones de poetas estadounidenses que no han publicado previamente un libro de poesía. Una vez que el juez ha elegido un ganador, la prensa publica un manuscrito de la poesía del ganador como el siguiente volumen de la serie. Todos los poemas deben ser originales y solo se puede ingresar un manuscrito a la vez.
Reglas y elegibilidad
Los requisitos del concurso se articularon por primera vez en el verano de 1920. La serie ya había publicado cuatro libros, todos escritos por estudiantes de Yale, y los jueces buscaron atraer a un grupo de solicitantes a nivel nacional. Una declaración promocional dio los siguientes requisitos de elegibilidad algo vagos: "Cualquiera es elegible siempre que sea joven y relativamente desconocido. Historia
La Serie de poetas más jóvenes fue establecida en 1919 por Clarence Day , cuyo hermano George Parmly Day había fundado Yale University Press con su esposa Wilhelmine en 1908. [6] El primer juez de la competencia, Charlton Miner Lewis , fue un destacado profesor en el departamento de inglés de Yale. [7] La competencia inaugural tuvo lugar después del final de la Primera Guerra Mundial , justo cuando una afluencia de jóvenes veteranos regresaba de la lucha en Europa y entraba a la universidad.
