Familia de polillas
Las polillas de franela o polillas de franela arrugadas (nombre científico Megalopygidae ) son una familia de insectos. Ocurren en América del Norte (11 especies) y los trópicos del Nuevo Mundo. Las larvas se llaman orugas de gato y, con sus largos pelos, se asemejan a bolas de algodón. Tienen espinas venenosas que pueden causar una picadura dolorosa e inflamación que dura varios días. En algunos casos, la picadura puede causar dolor de cabeza, náuseas y síntomas similares a los de un shock . Quizás el más notorio por picar es la oruga de Megalopyge opercularis .
