La cima de una montaña o colina se puede medir de tres formas principales:
- La elevación topográfica de una cumbre mide la altura de la cumbre sobre el nivel del mar geodésico . [1] [2]
- La prominencia topográfica de una cumbre es una medida de qué tan alto se eleva la cumbre sobre sus alrededores. [3] [2]
- El aislamiento topográfico (o radio de dominancia) de una cumbre mide qué tan lejos se encuentra la cumbre de su punto más cercano de igual elevación. [4]
Denali es una de las tres cumbres de la Tierra con más de 6000 metros (19,685 pies) de prominencia topográfica. Tres cumbres de los Estados Unidos superan los 4000 metros (13,123 pies), seis superan los 3500 metros (11,483 pies), diez superan los 3000 metros (9843 pies), 19 superan los 2500 metros (8202 pies), 45 superan los 2000 metros (6562 pies), 128 cumbres ultra prominentes superan los 1500 metros (4921 pies) y 264 cumbres principales superan los 1000 metros (3281 pies) de prominencia topográfica.
