Por lo general, están adornados de manera llamativa con brillantes escamas metálicas. [3] [4] Las antenas de las hembras de algunas especies de Sabethes tienen espirales flagelares largos y densos que se asemejan a los de los machos de la mayoría de los demás géneros de mosquitos. [4]
Los mosquitos de la especie Sabethes se encuentran en América Central y del Sur . [5]
Importancia médica
Se ha encontrado que Sabethes chloropterus está infectada con el virus de la encefalitis de St. Louis y el virus Ilhéus, y transmite el virus de la fiebre amarilla a los humanos. [1] [6]
