La 11-cetoestosterona ( 11-KT ) es una forma oxidada de testosterona que contiene un grupo ceto en la posición C11. Está relacionado con la adrenosterona , un andrógeno que se encuentra en pequeñas cantidades en los seres humanos. En el pescado , la 11-cetotestosterona funciona como la hormona sexual androgénica endógena . [1] [2] En los peces guardiamarina , la 11-cetotestosterona no está presente en las hembras ni en los machos de tipo II: los machos de tipo II alcanzan la maduración sexual más tarde, son menos territoriales y tienen más testosterona que los machos de tipo I.
En los mamíferos, la 11-cetotestosterona tiene una potencia similar a la testosterona como andrógeno y se ha identificado como un andrógeno suprarrenal importante . [3] Sin embargo, a diferencia de la testosterona, es muy débilmente anabólica y principalmente previene la degradación muscular en lugar de promover el crecimiento muscular. Se sintetiza a partir de 11β-hidroxiandrostenediona y, en menor medida, 11-cetoandrostenediona (adrenosterona).
